Terms of use

Last updated: November 3, 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of Amayagwa, a service for learning Kirundi run by [ASBL legal name] ASBL, a non-profit association under Belgian law, registered office at [registered office address]. You can reach us at amayagwa.asbl@gmail.com.

By creating an account you accept these terms. How we handle personal data is described in our privacy policy.

2. The service

Amayagwa offers lessons, flashcards, exercises and written notes for learning Kirundi, and one-on-one classes by video call with professors we select. Some content is free; the rest requires a subscription.

3. Accounts

You must give accurate information and keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account; tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.

You must be at least 18 years old to subscribe or buy classes. Learners aged 13 to 17 may hold their own account with the permission of a parent or legal guardian. Children under 13 use Amayagwa only through a child profile on a parent's account.

A parent who creates child profiles accepts these terms on behalf of the child and is responsible for the child's use of the service.

4. Subscription and payment

  • The Solo plan costs €15 per month, VAT included where applicable. It includes the full flashcard library, class notes and written lessons, progress tracking and one one-hour class with a professor each month.
  • A free trial of 7 days may be offered once per account. We tell you before you start whether payment details are needed and when billing begins.
  • The subscription renews automatically each month and is charged in advance by Stripe. A monthly class that is not booked during the month does not carry over.
  • You can cancel at any time from your billing page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period; you keep access until then and are not charged again.
  • Extra one-hour classes cost €10 each and are paid when you buy them.
  • We may change our prices. A new price applies to an existing subscription only from the next period after we have told you at least 30 days in advance; you may cancel before it applies.

5. Right of withdrawal

If you are a consumer, you may withdraw from a subscription or a purchase within 14 days of concluding it, without giving a reason, by writing to amayagwa.asbl@gmail.com or using the model withdrawal form available on request. We refund you within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal, using the same means of payment.

If you ask us to start the service during the withdrawal period, for example by using the subscription, you will pay an amount in proportion to what was provided up to the moment you withdraw. Once an extra class has been fully given at your express request, with your acknowledgement that you then lose the right of withdrawal, you can no longer withdraw from that purchase.

6. Classes

Classes are booked in the app from the professors' published availability and take place by video call. Please join on time; the conditions for rescheduling or cancelling a class are shown when you book it.

If a professor cannot give a booked class, we will offer you another time or another professor, or credit the class back to you.

Professors and learners treat each other with respect. We may end a class or suspend an account in case of inappropriate behaviour, in particular towards a child.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the service for anything unlawful, harmful, or harassing;
  • share content that is offensive, discriminatory, or that infringes someone else's rights;
  • try to access accounts, data or parts of the service you are not entitled to, or disrupt its operation;
  • copy, scrape or resell the content of the service, or share your account with others;
  • contact a learner, in particular a child, outside the service for a purpose unrelated to the class.

8. Content and intellectual property

Lessons, cards, illustrations, recordings and software of Amayagwa belong to us or to those who licensed them to us. You may use them for your own, non-commercial learning.

Professors keep ownership of the content they create in Amayagwa. By publishing it, they grant us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, adapt, translate and make it available to learners within the service, for as long as it is published and for a reasonable period afterwards to remove it from our systems.

If you send us feedback or report an exercise, we may use your suggestions to improve the service without any obligation to you.

9. Availability and changes to the service

We work to keep Amayagwa available and accurate, but we cannot guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what a paid subscription includes, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel and be refunded for the period not used.

10. Liability

We are liable for damage caused by our fault in providing the service, under the conditions of Belgian law. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damage, nor for damage caused by your own breach of these terms, by third-party services you use with Amayagwa, or by force majeure.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for intentional fault, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or any liability that the law does not allow us to exclude, nor does it affect your mandatory rights as a consumer.

11. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Amayagwa and ask us to delete your account at any time by writing to amayagwa.asbl@gmail.com. Any active subscription is then cancelled as described above.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaches these terms. Except in urgent cases, such as a risk to a child or to the security of the service, we will tell you first and give you a chance to respond.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will tell you about significant changes at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree, you may cancel before then; if you keep using the service afterwards, the new terms apply.

13. Applicable law and disputes

These terms are governed by Belgian law. If you are a consumer living in another country of the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of that country.

Please contact us first at amayagwa.asbl@gmail.com; we will try to find a solution. If we cannot, you can turn to the Belgian Consumer Mediation Service (Service de médiation pour le consommateur / Consumentenombudsdienst), www.mediationconsommateur.be. Disputes are otherwise brought before the competent courts of the judicial district of our registered office, without prejudice to your right as a consumer to go to the courts of your place of residence.
